The discussion was so energetic since for this semester these undergraduate students have to study a course on the political history of Indochina and Cambodia after Khmer Rouge. This is a special short course designed after professor Dr. Pai Normblom has been so inspired by the Cambodian history and its development while she visited Cambodia last year. We have discussed the following points:
- A brief Cambodian history in relation to Indochina war I and II.
- A brief history of Khmer Rouge regime.
- Key political events after Khmer Rouge including the Paris Peace Accords 1991.
- The ruling party and its decline after July 2013.
- Current political development: EU and Japan in electoral reforms, civil society and political spaces, roles of international communities in Cambodia’s road to democracy and respect for human rights, and Cambodia's regional cooperation.
- A turning point in 2018 elections: Youth as game-changers.
Thank Prof. Pai Normblom for your kind invitation, and highly appreciate your warm hospitality in the beautiful city, #Mainz.
